By 1970, the Fife passenger rail network had contracted to just the main line and the Dunfermline loop. This pocket timetable from later in the decade brands the services, Fiferail, although it also shows the InterCity services from Aberdeen to King’s Cross. The Fife Circle services which exist in 2020, were still more than a decade away and services from Edinburgh via Dunfermline mostly terminated at Cowdenbeath, with Lochgelly and Cardenden only served by peak hour trains. Train services between Edinburgh and Perth via Dunfermline and Kinross had ceased in January 1970 (being diverted via Stirling) but in 1975, the decision had been taken to restore some services to Perth via Fife using the freight only route from Ladybank to Hilton Junction. Thus three weekday trains (1 on Sundays) over this route feature in the folder.View image on Flickr
