Hatfield Queen Elizabeth's Oak, Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire, England

Hatfield Photo: a fantastic Hatfield Photograph Featuring Queen Elizabeth's Oak, Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire, England

Photograph Taken On Saturday, May 18, 2013

As the sign explains, this young tree stands on the spot where tradition says Queen Elizabeth I learned of her accession as Queen on 17 November 1558, while reading a Bible under an oak. Her first recorded words on hearing she had become Queen at the age of 25 were a quotation from Psalm 118: "This is the Lord's doing, it is marvelous in our eyes". The original oak under which all this took place died sometimes in the 1980s. This young tree was planted on the same spot in 1985 by Queen Elizabeth II.View image on Flickr
