The Flying Camera Systems RC helicopter is perfect for shooting professional quality aerial digital photographs... photo's with altitude!
Flying Camera Systems offers high quality aerial photographic images that would be considered too difficult or too costly to obtain from a full-sized aircraft. Get stunning photographs from normally impractical locations, showcase your event, business, premises or structure in a unique and powerful way using aerial still imagery or video.
Introducing Flying Camera Systems
After years of development, Flying Camera Systems can now offer clients ranging from private homeowners through to multi-national companies an easy, cost effective, and low pollution solution to aerial photography.
The service Flying Camera Systems provide is of particular value in areas near major civilian or military airports where full sized aircraft have severe flight restrictions imposed on them. It is also useful when the costs of using full sized aircraft would be prohibitively expensive.
The company uses high quality miniature helicopters; each with a purpose-built mount designed to take a camera (video or photographic), and a video downlink. The system is not subject to the same restrictions that full size aircraft have imposed on them, and can be used in relatively confined areas which open up a new realm of possibilities for aerial photography.
The flight team comprises of an experienced pilot with the necessary skills for precise and accurate flying, and a camera operator in complete control of the camera. This combination ensures outstanding results every time.
How are the shots obtained?
Once the helicopter is in position, the camera operator uses a separate radio-controlled link to move the camera precisely into the required position and can see what the camera sees by means of a video monitor. He is thus able to compose the perfect picture and the customer is able to assist in the composition of the images if he so desires. Generally we will take over 50 pictures for the customer to own and select from.

The Technology
Our helicopters are purpose designed to take aerial photographs and video efficiently. This means that they are required to have a stable hover and smooth flight. How do we get such great shots? Generally, we prefer to view the location prior to filming, in order to assess suitability, safety, take off and landing locations, and environmental considerations. Our helicopters can take off and land in relatively small sites, are quick to set-up, and photographs can often be processed within a few hours, making the whole process extremely versatile and cost-effective. When undertaking stills photography, we use 12mp digital cameras with radio- controlled shutters. Looking through the camera viewfinder is a colour video camera, which is connected to a microwave video downlink.
The Technical Bit
The heart of the helicopter is its 23cc petrol engine, which sits within custom designed carbon frames. Four servos operate the rotor head, which allows single servo redundancy, thus ensuring safe flight. The drive to the tail rotor system is another area where safety is paramount and therefore a stainless steel tube drive system is employed to ensure a strong, durable and reliable drive.
The camera mount on the front of the helicopter employs our unique, state of the art vibration damping system, which isolates vibration. This is crucial to maintain the optimum image quality. The mount is operated remotely from the ground by a dedicated camera operator, and can be moved in three axis.

In a distant Galaxy far far away you will find our M.D. Jolyon Bambridge... well back in 1999 you would have, working with George Lucas as part of his film crew on the blockbuster movie Stars Wars Phantom Menace. Jolyon Bambridge supervised the R2D2 Build personally operating the little robot on both the Tunisian and UK film sets.
It's a long way off from Flying Miniature helicopters specialising in aerial photography but it's another part of Jolyons background that makes him such an expert in his field. in the uk" |
